Letter of solidarity to the indigenous people of Peru

The Movement of Dam Affected People wants to express its solidarity to the indigenous peoples of Peru and pronounce our indignation for the masacre and repression exercised by the Garcia administration upon the indigenous communities of Bagua Grande and Chica in the Peruvian Amazon.

The struggle of these people, who are mobilized for more than two months in defence of their natural resources and their home, is a legitimate fight for their sovereignty and has to be respected and supported, instead of being repressed by the Peruvian government which has shown once again its anti-popular and pro-capital face.

We are joining our voice with the social movements from around the world to fiercely denounce the assassinations committed by the Peruvian Government and demand that president Alan Garcia is brought to international courts to respond for the crimes and violations of human rights laws committed in Bagua.

This repression cannot continue! The government should not continue to enjoy impunity!
